Let me tell my readers how MUCH I love this wedding! It's relaxed, casual and looked like a LOT of fun!! My lovely makeup artist, Abbey did the makeup for her wedding. When Erica sent me the photos I knew I wanted to do a feature on it!
Erica did NOT mess around, she hired the top vendors in the city! She hired the lovely and talented Lori from Lola Event Productions, who I absolutely love to pieces...and hired Pen Carlson Photography to shoot her wedding. With those two alone you know it's going to be STUNNING!!!!
So let's get this party started....

Tell me how you and your fiancé met...
We were both beginning Ph.D.s in political science at the University of Chicago and met the first day of orientation. There were only sixteen of us in the class, so John and I noticed each other instantly. At the end of the first day he came over to me to say hello. I was shocked, as he hadn't said a thing all day, so I had imagined that he would be too shy to start a conversation.
How did he propose?
John and I love the bean (cloud gate) in Millennium Park. On a ten-degree day in January he took me to the bean and, as we were both looking at our reflections in the sculpture, pulled out a ring.
Tell us something funny that happened on your wedding day?
The South Shore Cultural Center is a park district facility, and even though this was a private event, it was hard to keep it so once dancing started. Throughout the night, we would look over at the cupcake stand and see little kids sneaking in from the lawn of the cultural center to grab cupcakes. I thought it was hilarious. Others might not have had such a good attitude about the whole thing!
Tell us something NOT so funny that happened on your wedding day?
Our florist delivered the bouquets to my parent's house. The bridesmaid bouquets were composed of green goddess calla lilies. They were lovely when they arrived, but it was a hot day in June, and by the time we were all ready to walk down the aisle, the lilies were in a very sorry state. I almost told the bridesmaids not to bother carrying them at all! Ahh well, lesson learned. Green goddess calla lilies should always get delivered directly to the ceremony if it's a hot summer day (I do wish our florist had know that...I kind of think they should have!).
What was on the dinner menu?
It was an upscale BBQ. Burgers, truffle fries, grilled snapper, grilled french-cut chicken, grilled veggies, mac and cheese. The caterer cooked everything on big grills outside. It was fabulous.
Tell me about your dress, veil and accessories....
The dress was Caroline DeVillo. Three tiers of alencon lace and strapless. The best part was that the bottom of the dress was removable, so I had a cocktail dress for dancing!
The veil is the best part of the whole wedding day story. My Great Aunt bought it in 1916 at Marshal Field's. (Edited to note, OK Erica, this is so awesome!) It was worn by my grandmother in 1923, my mother in 1966, and some 40 other brides in our family. It is truly gorgeous.
I also wore a family necklace of tiny pearls arranged into brooch-like ovals. Both my mother and grandmother wore it at their weddings.
What was your favorite part of the day?
The ceremony itself was absolutely magical. Walking down that aisle with my father while John waited for us (he was sobbing, mind you) was incredible.
What makeup style were you looking for?
Natural.
Why did you choose Sonia Roselli ?
LOLA recommended Sonia Roselli without thinking twice.
What advice would you give other brides?
Do their best to make it their day-don't let it get hijacked by parents, siblings, etc. And hire a good coordinator!
Thanks Erica & John, your wedding was absolutely beautiful! xoxo, Sonia
Blue Eyeshadow

Blue shadow always gets a bad rap. Whenever I am doing my makeup trials for my Chicago brides, I usually ask them "what is one thing you don't want me to do for your makeup?" Overwhelmingly I get the answer "Blue Eyeshadow."
Blue shadow can be fun and creative...and I am not saying what I have posted here would be great makeup for your wedding day. But when executed correctly, blue shadow can be fun, exotic and hip.
When wearing a bold color such as blue on your eyes, be sure to let that be your one "hero" item on your face. Going for too much makeup with blue shadow can make you look like a "tranny hooker." But as we see here in Harper's Bazaar Australia Oct 2010, this makeup artist executed blue shadow quite nicely and everything else on the skin was natural and soft and free of strong color.

Alberta Ferretti Spring 2011-Milan Fashion Week

Oh Milan fashion week, how I miss you so.....
If I were going to dress in couture year round, live in a warm climate, this could be my wardrobe year round. Could you die? I am so in love with this collection. It satisfies the hippie in me along with my feminine girly side. What do you think?
I think my friend Becky Hill and Misse Daniel are more than likely drooling over this too. Ladies? Oh yea!!!! Enjoy! XO

Blog Worthy
Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 1:13pm
I nearly squealed with delight when I came across thes in Numéro Magazine October Issue. If you have ever been to my studio you know I have an obsession with all things French (and Italian). So it comes no surprise I would find this blog worthy! It has the 3 things I love. The Eiffel Tower first and foremost, fashion and great photography. But what do I love the most? I love that the model has REAL skin showing in this editorial. Refreshing. Everything these days is retouched within an inch of it's life so this makes me very happy as a makeup artist.
Hope you enjoy them! Photographed by Camilla Akrans.
